Moshimonsters hasn't been around as long as some virtual per sites but it is growing fast. It lets you adopt a pet 'monster' and look after it while it grows up. There are a lot of games to play and other players to chat with.
The moshimonsters are a lot smarter than other online pets. For one thing, they understand how well you look after them. If you let them down, they can start behaving very badly. They scream, they fight and it needs a lot of care to get them back to being happy and playful again.

Neopets was the first of the big online virtual pet sites and is almost ten years old. It was made for college students but nowadays many children use the site. The whole thing is free and you get three pets to adopt and play with.
The site is massive and the range of things you can do is enormous. There are clubs and guilds to join. Regular new competitions appear. You can team with friends to take part in quests. A popular club is the astronomy club.This gives you a telescope to look for the constellations of stars in the sky. If you find them all, you get a prize.
There are many other things to do. You can set up a shop to earn neopoints (nps) or you can play games to get rich. Once you have enough points you can ‘buy’ things for your neopet home. Some players like to train their pets to fight in battles. Some like to spend their time dressing up pets or building a home.
Neopets is one of the best sites if you like to play with friends, make teams to compete in cups and quests or like regular and unusual challenges.
Note to Parents
There are adults, as well as children, on the Neopets site so care should be exercised. Access to messenging is restricted for participants under the age of 13.

This a simpler version of Neopets for younger kids with more controls over chat.

While many pet sites have cute monsters to adopt, Adoptme.com offer virtual pets like dogs and horses which are beautifully drawn and friendly in a Disney way.
You give your pet a name and choose whether it is a boy or a girl. Then you are given some money everyday to look after it.
Some of the fun things to do with your virtual pet:
- You can chat with it.
- You can enter it in pet shows and win prizes.
- If you have a myspace or facebook page or any kind of blog or website you can show it off to other people.
- There are many games to play like tic tac toe, tennis or checkers.
- You can dress up your pet

Pet Adoptables
This is one of the newest sites and looks like a friendly place to get a free virtual pet. There are only about 2500 members so far but the forums are busy with people talking about their pets and their lives. You start with an egg and nurture it carefully.
Favorite animals seem to be cats and dogs and there are endangered animals which need special care in our world. I liked the look of the owl!
Powerpets
This is a busy site with plenty of pet lovers around. The forums are full of chat and it has a nice feel.
Joining is easy, though you need to give an email. As soon as you have joined, you are straight into the site.
There is a lot of play of all kinds and I reckon this is a good site for younger kids. No monsters here! Just cute animals and a big community.
Guffins
This is one of the more recent virtual pet sites. There are several cute animals to choose from (again no monsters). You need to download a small file that will put the game into your browser tool bar. This makes the pet world easy to keep up with but might annoy some people.
You will probably want avoid setting Guffins as your homepage on install.
The site is well integrated with Facebook and sharing is easy.
There are simple activities needed to keep your pet in top condition like feeding and cleaning.
Mara pets
You are allowed up to 12 pets in Mara. You can adopt one or trade with other players for money won in Mara’s many games.
Once you have a pet, you need to take good care of it. There are many games to play including dress up and celebrity dress up. If you like to fight virtual battles the battle arena is for you.
Some Place Places to Visit in Mara
The Biala Icecaves:
This is a place that you need to careful about visiting. There are magical things to be found in the caves and these can get you a lot of Mara money. If don't keep your eyes open though your pet can get lost and it might not be so easy again. It is still the place to get the best health and, if you are lucky, magic stats.
Job Center:
If you need more money to spend in all the great Mara stores, you need to get your pet a job from the job center.
Jobs include actress, doctor,astronaut vet and even thief- though I'm sure that a thief really does too much work.
Be careful though you will lose all that lovely money if you forget to look after your pet and he doesn't show up for work when he is supposed to.
Battle Arena:
Fearsome combat with pet against pet happens in the battle arena. You need to teach your pet well if you want him to win!
Shops
The shops have clothes to buy and things for your Mara pet home. If you look around it is amazing just how much choice there is- and of course you can always open your own shop. Maybe you will get Mara rich!
Games
There are dozens of free online games at Mara including- strategy games, dress up, cards, flash games and puzzle games.
There are also plenty of quests to take part in and prizes to be won.
Buildabearville
This not strictly an adopt-a-pet site. It is more of a build-a-bear-friend site. It deserves a mention for its great graphics. It is especially girl friendly.
You can make your own bear in the bear workshop and explore the virtual world of bearville. One place to visit is the fabulous fashion district where you can get the makeover of a life time.

Underwater adventures where you and your bear friend face many hazards but also see many wonderful things.

I agree why should u have to pay money just for a virtual pet.
No kidding. They just have an adoption center open for 30 min. You can name the dog or cat but you have to pay to be able to adopt it so someone else can have it.
FOOPETS is no longer free. You must pay $4.99 in order to open an account.

FooPets is really fun! You can either work at the adoption center for a month and get a free pet or either buy council to join right away! I'm a FooPets expert....

why dont they just let u adopt a pet on foopets for cryin out loud!!! i mean...instead of "adopt a pet by joining clubfoopets (which you have to pay for) or earning a free pet by completing the daily goals", why doesnt it be "adopt a pet for FREEEEEEE!!!!" plus it closes for like 10 and a half hours
im 10 yrs. old and have wanted a foo pet for my entire life and finally i got my mom to pay. i was more excited then i have ever been..... until i found out that you had to pay if you wanted to do anything!! (besides just sit there and scoop your cats leavings) i was really sad because i didnt know that.

I`v played foopets for 1 year and 9 months i adopted 13 pets (4 cats 9 dogs)I breed some pets and had over 500 FD and i had about 600.000 FG and i still had 2 LL but becouse i didn`t pay for CLUBFOO they kicked me out..Its unfair...

i forgot 2 say this earlier, but i tried to get a free trial on pet adoptables so i tried it and it needed a credit crad number.... i dont get it anyways, please tell me if being a member on pet adoptables is free. btw, i'm 10 so i hope its free and age apropriate.

I miss the old Foopets. I used to play that game all the time. I had 30+ pets from breeding and never selling. I was actually "lucky" to get a glitch litter of 13. I love how realistic it is but I refuse to pay for a dog or cat on a screen. It was a great site until ClubFoo came. Us regular users had a limited access to things. Then this happened. Can't find another game like it. Doubt I ever will.
I know it might be bad for some of you, but Foopets is a good replacement for a dog. I'm not allowed to have dogs, so a virtual pet like Foopets is great. I'm okay with paying

I use to play on foopets constantly. Until the owners got greedily and made it so you have to pay to play a driving virtual game. It was the best suite I knew.
