Farmville Stars and Crop Mastery
87The Farmville makers have been introducing new game elements at a steady rate since the launch. One of the biggest changes is the introduction of Farmville crop mastery and the 3 stars system. It adds even more interest to an already great game.
Crop mastery is not something that will make you rich but it does give you rewards in XP’s (experience points) and coins. You also get a sign saying that you have achieved mastery for the particular crop. Bragging rights are always worth something. I, for one, am very proud of my neat row of crop mastery signs- even if that row is pretty short right now.
When Does Crop Mastery Kick in and How do I get it?
Once you reach level ten you can sign up for crop mastery (free). Now, when you go to the market you will see stars under the crops.
Farmville Tips and Tricks
This is my page offering beginners the best tips for speeding through the Farmville levels, ways to make best use of ribbons and advice on how to get neighbors-
How Do I Earn Stars?
You earn one crop mastery point for each plot harvested of the crop concerned. Each crop has a different number of points that you need to accumulate before you get the different stars. The slower growing crops generally need fewer mastery points but Farmville haven’t made all stars equally easy to get. You need to study the tables a little to see how long each will take.
Most people will still chose a crop on the basis of how much it earns in XP and coins. At the same time, I know have been swayed a few times in my crop choices by that itch to get another star.
One thing you will notice is that it takes a lot fewer points to go from 0 to 1 star and 1 star to 2 stars than it does from 2 stars to 3 stars. These game designers can be fiends.

What Do I get Out of Crop Mastery besides those pretty Stars and signs?
First of all, I wouldn’t run down ‘pretty’. One of the best things about Farmville is that the farm becomes more beautiful and more rewarding to work on as you get through the levels. Stars and signs are just as good as the new decorations that become available at each level!
I also like spending time just looking over neighbor's farms to see if they have anything I have missed out on somehow, whether it is a way of arranging things better or a decoration that I have never come across before. When I see a lot of signs I zoom in to see what a really good farmer can achieve.
We all like the coins though. so for those who need to know, here is the the bottom line:
Every time you go up a star level you get a coin reward
1 Star -
25 XP & 500 coins.
2 Star - 75 XP & 1500 coins.
3 Stars - 250 XP & 5000 coins.
If you post up your achievement, your friends will also benefit.
Rewards for Friends
1 Star
=50 coins.
2 Stars= 100 coins.
3 Stars= 150 coins.
It is always nice to be popular- especially if it means you get more gifts..
Crop Mastery and Premium Crops
Once you have achieved crop mastery for a particular crop you will start getting premium crops. These are bigger than ordinary crops, look great and yield more.
The process is pretty random. Some squares planted with a crop you have mastered will grow as premium crops some will not. It seems to vary between 10% and 40%.
Premium crops give you up to 8 XP on harvesting which can be a significant jump in returns. Remember that non-premium crops give no XP on harvesting.
The XP gained at harvest seems similar for the different crops overall. The smaller the percentage of your crop that turns into a premium crop, the bigger the XP payout per square. If someone finds a premium crop that delivers huge returns, let me know below.
Bonus Bushels and Crop Mastery
Sometimes you will find a bushel of a crop you have harvested. If you have reached level one mastery for that crop. you will recieve the one bushel plus one more as a bonus. If you reached level two you will get the bushel plus two more bushels as a bonus. If you have reached level three you will get the bushel plus three more as a bonus.
Temporary Crop Mastery
Sometimes there are temporary crops which offer great bonuses and rewards if you master them- Cup Cakes and Pinto beans are recent examples. They are usually are only available for 2 or 3 weeks so you need to look out for them in the market.
Using Internet Explorer and Want a Faster Interface?
If your game is a slower than you would like, and you are using IE as your browser try changing to Firefox or Chrome. These browsers will handle a lot more threads and should be much quicker.
You can also box in your farmer with haybales or something similar. If the farmer can't move around everything happens faster.
Extreme Farmville Manager
If you have Extreme Farmville Manager (are you sure you should be using that naughty thing?), there is a new feature that offers to help with ribbons.
Farmville automation guide: hubpages.com/hub/Farmville-Automation-Guide
What can I do with My Mastery Sign?
There are only 2 options.
- You can display it proudly.
- You can delete it.
I would only delete mine if I was short of room for a second villa. That is a not a problem, right now. Unfortunately!
One thing you cannot do is sell it. That would be wrong- FarmVille crop mastery is all about the glory.
Tempted by FrontierVille Yet?
I would never quit half way through FarmVille. FrontierVille is also still in beta and has a lot of glitches. On the other hand, it is good to know that there is a great follow up to FarmVille waiting for you.

It was nice going through it. keep it up the good work.

your total on green tea is incorrect
your total on pink roses is also slightly off
nice tutorial :)
Coffee is missing in the list...
And the total for pink roses should be 1428.
Thanks for a great page!
Farmville is so addicting, I want to quit it but I can't
Hahaha, not the IRS, but I do work as an accountant. Occupational hazard I guess! :)
Thanks again for a great site!
Hi there, I do play Farmville...so addicting. Does this mean I am one of the best, as well? LOL. I really have to discipline myself not to get too hooked in this game. But when I started blogging, less time is spent in the 'farm'.
I play Farmville too but the going gets tough when you get a whole lot of neighbors and go to fertilize all their farms. Whew, so much work!!!
Enjoyed your hub
For you...?what is the best crops...?Thanks for making farmville ^_^ what a addicting game..hehe also fishisle..love raising fish...hehe...
You can sell your crop mastery board if you put it in your barn or tool shed and then you can open your barn and you will see that you have two options : use or sell.
But you don't get a lot of money for selling this board.
Thanks for the tips! I've been playing Farmville for a while now, but it seems I don't have much time to explore around and learn all this stuff. In fact I just figured out a few weeks ago how to upgrade my farm **blushes**
I guess we're all newbies at some point, huh? Thanks again for the great post!
I'm level 20, but I see no stars under the seeds in the market -- but I do get the Mastery Points when harvesting a crop. Do I have to wait to reach the first star before the Mastery starts to show up in the Market?
I didn't see it posted yet, but you can also sell your mastery sign by first storing it. While stored it gives the option of selling. I don't know if that influences the extra xp while harvesting though. Anyone?
Just wanted to let you know that I use this guide all the time. It's my decision-maker. :) I can't grow anything new, so my main objective is no longer leveling up but mastery. It's a lifesaver!!
this hub is great. I love playing a little farmville while i cruise facebook.
Very informative.
Morning glory???
Wow! And my kids thought I was hooked. Farmville is the source of lots of good natured teasing in our house. Mom is hooked on a game instead of the kids for a change. Good information...thank you. I've been creating an orchard in my Farmville. I just like the way it looks. I've always loved a beautiful orchard...
Did anyone find out how to be 'master' after passing level 10? I am level 26 and must have missed it somehow. Thank you for any help u can provide. After a hard day at work I say, "Farmville take me away". SKOL VIKINGS!!!
Farmville!!! I love it. I can't stop. I love playing it as much as I love looking at my beautiful farm. For a few minutes I can pretend I live in a Norman Rockwellian world!
Hey great hub I just started with farmville not to long ago but its relaxing after work you know. I have been searching through facebook for new farmville stuff and came accross a new farmville community its here:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Farmville-Community/
check it out Will
Farmville is a really fun game. I'm working on Black Berry mastery now but it's a long slow climb.
I just recently started playing Farmville and this was a helpful hub for me. Thanks for packing in so much information.

I'm level 20, but I see no stars under the seeds in the market -- but I do get the Mastery Points when harvesting a crop.
~ same like mine...it's ok if you dont see the stars but u can still now how much u have harvest so far. Just point our mouse on the bar under the stars..u'll see the figures :-D ~
When I was playing those games, I had no life. I didn't have time nor did I want to do any housework or take care of "important" things. Now I am here, still doing not as much as I should but I am fulfilled and when I'm writing, I'm happy. I'm contributing.
This is great information for those who are looking to make the most of their crops.
Super Pumpkins?
I received my Super Pumpkin mastery sign today. Level 1 and 2 were both 1,250 each, while Level 3 was 2,500 for a grand total of 5,000 Super Pumpkins.
Thanks, Rob-I have been wondering that one!
Does anyone know if selling your mastery sign affects whether or not you get the bonus XP when you harvest? DO you need to have the sign posted on your farm? Or is strictly for decoration, to keep or toss as you like?
I have mastered quite a few crops, here are my results and what percentage of my harvest are large "premium crops" at extra exp. Hope this helps!

hello, is there any way to play this game for free.
Fine ending!
Very helpful, thanks for providing such a detailed guide.
Sigh.. Not a Farmville fan but boyfriend is. I will send him this hub. I am still waitng for facebook to come up with a game where doing the dishes and taking out the trash will offer experince points! :)
I think that if you plant the seed after you have mastered all 3 levels then you get extra xp!
Will this is a great resource thank you -- I'm using it to get signs as quickly as I can.. at 13 now and growing, I've got one neighbor with 22 mastery signs.
One extra piece of information others might find helpful is if you added in the hours/days for each crop -- and calculate the minimum time needed to get each mastery level for each crop... in my case, as I'm working through the different crops, I'd like to know overall which crop will take me the least amount of time to get to mastery 3 at.
e.g. Lavender takes 1378 crops @ 2days = 2756 'crop-days' and corn takes 800 but @ 3days = 2400 'crop-days'... so corn should take less overall time to get Level 3 on than lavender... etc.
Thanks again!
(anyone can feel free to add me, search for Bruce Johnson in Columbus Ohio area, lvl 70 here)
is there anyway to find how many more crops you need to plant if your in between levels ?
Chuck, you just scroll over the bar that's directly under the stars! It tells you how many you have/how many total you need...
how can i get to be a crop master. i'm at level 13.
Anyone elses crop mastery amounts messed up?? I noticed it after they added Saffron to the seed list. I'm level 1 blueberries and it now says 3572/2000 (before 2nd level). Coffee says 933/1050 til 3rd level, even though you need 3750 for 3rd level. Some others are messed up too.
I'd like to know what happens after we reach level 70?....justfarm, its more fun having people chase you!!
There was a patch on 4-13 adjusting some of the mastery requirements. Some went up, some went down.
mine is messed up too, but it's been for longer then just when the saffron came out.. it's happening for about two of mine (coffee and corn).. it's telling me i havent gotten to the frist star yet.. when i definately have because the star is showing, and the fraction will say something like "547/400" notice the first number is bigger which is not supposed to happed
I am up to 25 signs and find some of your numbers are off watermelon and yellow watermelon are 125 for level 1 I don't know what level two is I'll let you know in four days

Has anybody completed all the Masteries? I have completed 32 signs so far. All I have left is pineapples, tomatoes, pink roses, carrots, ghost chili, cabbage, green tea, white grapes, black berries, lavender, sugar cane, onions, broccoli, purple poppies.
mastery levels have been altered, if you have more than required, just plant 1 and you will get your star, im afraid some of the easier levels have been increased, the updated ammounts by smh218 5 days ago, is at present correct
This is a really great list. I have one suggestion though. You misspelled tomato and potato, so that should be corrected on the chart.
i feel robbed everytime i see the new black berries mastery, you can have the mastery now for 7.210, two months ago i had to do 26.250 for the exact same mastery :( do you think that's fair?
Anyone have any info for the Lilacs?
If you got the mastery signs and you deleted them from your storage, can you get them back by replanting again? Is there someplace you can go to recapture things after they are deleted. What an idiot am I.
This has been really insightful. I didn't realize you could scroll over the bar to see how many you still need to fill each level.
And to the person asking about Lilacs... I don't know the first two levels, but that last one requires 1350.
I just browsed around to see if I could get back a mastery sign I accidentally deleted when (stupidly) trying out the new quick delete tool. Ooops, I should have aimed better. I'm guessing I'm out of luck...think so?
This is cool, you can get coins for mastery as well as an achievement in Farmville. And yeah, the table helps to figure out which one you're close to achieving and thus the quickest to get.
With all the recent comments I'm surprised nobody has stressed the use of the market stalls. Go and get yourself one and then see if you can find at least one of the crop you're working on mastering. That will cut the numbers in half for mastering the crop. It also gives you better XP boosts on crops you've mastered.
I haven't gotten any XP for harvesting crops I have mastered all 3 levels. I have about 10 signs posted, and whenever I plant any that I have 3 stars under, I still get the same XP only when planting, not when harvesting. ???????
When you have mastered a crop, you still get the same XP when planting the crop as you always did. You will get the extra XP because some crops will appear like they are fertilized, but your friends didn't always do the fertilizing, but you get 1 XP whenever the crops are like this, so that is where the extra XP comes from. I hope this helps!
It would be great if we could update this page with all the new crops. :)
I love this page and check it out before I start a new crop.
Crop Mastery means your any kinds of crop has 3 stars now. For one star, you need to complete the mastery number of each crops.
if you delete your crop mastery signs, does it remove your increased XP amounts?
i delete one mastery sign but i didn't want it? what can i do? i'm pissed off...
This has made it so much easier to plan out my crops for the best mastering. And the new bushels in the market have been SUPER helpful. I finally got up to 20 Masteries!
Oh, and I'm working on the second star for Elderberries and it only says 825.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get my mastery signs back after I have deleted them?
You're missing Rye amongst the listed crops. :)
How about some data for "Heirloom Carrot"
Your site is very helpful
Thanks
Charles' post is correct: You can "use" a bushel of the crop you are harvesting and get double points toward mastery. Go to your Market Stall, then click on Use>Bushels and select the bushel you need. If you don't already have a bushel of the crop you need, you can get one by clicking on Get>Bushels. You'll only need one; it's good for 2 hours.
Does anyone know what is up with the mastery sign in the farmer's market? How did I get that?
Also, does anyone know how high the levels go for each product?
hi!! i have a question.. i just got a mastery sign in cranberries, but suddenly there's a pop up that tells my game is out of sync.. when i return to my farm my new mastery sign(cranberries) is gone.. what will i do to have it back?? or will i get it back again?? please help coz i want to display it at my farm..
Will, thanks to your wonderful page I have completed every mastery except broccoli after I harvest the final crop of cucumbers at noon.....my farm is decorated with 90 crop mastery signs (91 after harvest) going right down the middle! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
It is such a fun hub.
u can sell them by using the Recycle

You can sell your Mastery Sign for $500 coins, but only while it's displayed in your gift box.
