SNSD aka Girls Generation

What is it with SNSD? How come this is one of the hottest music acts in the world right now? And why has almost nobody in the English speaking world ever heard of them?

Well. a part of the answer to that last question is that SNSD- also known as Girl's Generation, often shortened to just 'Gee'- are Korean. In the past, Korean music hasn't traveled that well and, as yet, there are no Korean artists in the Rock Hall of Fame. That might change as Girl's Generation grow ever more popular. Right now they are one of the hottest acts in Japan, China, Thailand and Malasia.

There is growing fan club in the US too. All it needs is one great song in English and they will be on Letterman.

What is the Appeal of Gee?

High energy, long legs and narrow waists go a long way in any dance act. Gee have 18 of the finest legs on Planet Earth, nine of the narrowest waists and enough energy to fire a rocket ship into orbit.

Did I mention that Korean girls look great in uniforms? Whether it is the Marines or the Navy, military uniforms and Korean limbs, smiles and dance routines gel.

Gee fans love the clothes. They don't mind listening to the same song over and over again as long as those girls are dancing and they are wearing something hot.

One moment, we have Japanese school girl tops and Levi shorts that look as they might disintegrate at any moment. They don't- I watched several times to make sure. The next they are shop mannequins who could raise the dead as they come to life themselves.

So who are Gee?

There are a lot of them. Are sure you want to know exactly...

So how do you Get to meet them?

They perform a lot. They are fit, they are hungry for suceess and they would love to take your dollar in exchange for a scorching routine. As for backstage one on one chats? You would need an SAS battailion to force your way through the fan mob.

How do you get to Join a group like Girl Generation?

Yoona took the normal route to Korean music stardom. She auditioned for SM Entertainment when she was a young teenager. They trained her for 6 years, gave her some TV appearances and made her do a lot of high kicks. Then, they decided she was good enough for Girl's Generation.

So if you have the stamina of a marathon runner, the legs of a giraffe and the smile of an angel, just remember to apply before you are old enough to need a bra.
