Toy Story 3 Characters

The new Toy Story- Toy Story 3- doesn't disappoint. All the old characters are back and there some new ones that you won't forget. The story is serious, funny, all action and, occassionally, so dark and scary you might want to to hide under your seat- in other words, it is perfect.

There are lurches of excitement, sighs of delight, tears and even profound insights into the gains and losses of growing up in this movie. Pixar deliver what Disney always wanted to deliver- beautiful graphics and great stories, but without the sentimentality and cliches.

At the heart of the sucess are the marvellous characters Pixar have created. These animated toys deliver more life-like and believably, human performances than many Hollywood actors manage in big budget movies with the best intentions.

The Story- just in case you don't know it

If you haven't seen Toy Story 3, you have missed out. In the latest movie, Andy is 17 amd as the movie starts he is getting ready to head off to college. As he clears his room he decides to take Woody with hima nd send the olther toys to a daycare center, A mix up means that Woody is sent too. he daycare center is not a happy place. It is ruled over by toys that feel rejected and are twisted and bitter as a result. Lotsa Hugs and Big Baby, two of the most memorable new characters are not always as nice as they seem, especially when possessed by bad spirits (a genuinely scary sequence).

Everything works out in the end but not before Buz Lightyear has a few problems with his programming- and a couple of identity crises- and a lot of daring do has been done.

Barbie and Ken offer a nice comic side story as Barbie gets emancipated and Ken is shown up as shallow and preening.

There might be more tradegy in Toy Story 3 than most kid's movies but there are also more great characters to set things right than in a whole barrel load of average Hollywood offerings. Here are just a few of the best.

Woody and Bullseye

Woody (voiced by Tom Hanks) shows that the US has never fallen out of love with the simpler times of the Frontier and the old West. Woody always knows who he is (unlike Buzz Lightyear). He is always inspired by the best motives and his heart is bigger than his horse, Bullseye.

He may be the most modest character in Toy Story 3, but he is always the star of the show.

Jessica

Jessica is sweet, strong and soft on Woody. She is also fashion model tall and slim and knows how to dress cowboy. How could anyone resist her?

Buzz Lightyear

Buzz is never quite sure who he is. In Toy Story 2 he can't be persuaded that he is just a toy and his booster rockets will never take him to the moon. In Toy Story 3, he gets reprogrammed as a military maniac and as a Spanish gallant with hilarious results.

In his calmer moments though- when he glimpses what is true and important- he can be relied upon to be brave and all-action. If he understands the problem, he is the perfect character to have on your side!

Lotso and Big Baby

I would be worried about giving Lotso or Big Baby as a gift for a child. On the other hand, they are very collectible.

Barbie and Ken

There is plenty of fun from the emancipated Barbie in Toy Story 3

Ken might have wished he had found a part in daytime TV,

T-Rex

Not so smart but loyal and always wanting to help.

That green makes it the perfect toy for any three year old to hide in a bowl of pea soup.

What is better than a Toy Story 3 Alien?

A pack of 3, of course.

That makes a total of nine eyes in what has to be called a value pack.
